A converted turkish bath house in Hastings complete with its own bowling alley and secret cinema room is the most expensive UK property available on AirBNB this summer – costing £3,538 per night in August.
Research carried out by Lansdown Insurance’s flat insurance experts found that there were 18 UK properties available in August at over £1,000 a night, as the unprecedented demand for staycations continues*.
From castles to sea front hot tubs
While normally prices like this are only found for the most exclusive of properties in London and Edinburgh, our research found that this August properties across the UK – from a castle near Fife to a sea front property in Plymouth (complete with hot tub, indoor and outdoor pools) were all priced at four figures a night.
The properties priced at over £1,000 a night are shown in the interactive map below.
At the other end of the market, with availability scarce, there were also just 18 properties available in the UK at under £50 a night for a family of four. These included a house in Liverpool and a one bedroom flat in Morecombe.
Limited availability driving up prices
Darren Bee, General Manager of Lansdown Insurance said: “As many of our clients rent their properties on AirBNB we like to keep a keen eye on what is happening on the site. We’d noticed that properties were being booked up as soon as they became available so we were interested in seeing what was happening at the very top end of the market.”
“The prices being demanded are even higher than we thought they would be and are likely to increase as availability reduces further.”
“Property owners may look at these high prices and consider listing their own properties to make some extra money. However, it’s essential that they have appropriate insurance in place. We’ve all read some of the horror stories of what can go wrong when renting out a property. While these more extreme incidents are rare, accidents do happen and not all insurance policies will cover property owners for damage caused by guests that book your property. We’d always recommend that anyone considering listing their property checks their insurance policy or speaks to their insurance broker first.”
